Last Tuesday (August 13, 2013) we discussed about Inferences, Predictions, Assumptions and Communication.
Inference involves making educated guesses (like making a hypothesis in
science).
- Supported inferences: are based directly on evidence
from a passage.
- Unsupported inferences: are conclusions that are not
logical--this happens when we ignore facts from a passage.
Predictions, involves looking for clues that the writer gives. Assumptions are
not always true and false assumptions can get one into all sorts of trouble.
The last topic that we encountered that day was Communication, art of getting a
message. It is divided into 3 parts:
- 7% words
- 38% style
- 55% body language
There is also Formal communication that is less flexible while Informal
communication is more flexible.
Types and Methods of
communication are:
1.
Written- letters, memos
2.
Spoken- conversation,
interviews
3.
Gestures- facial
expressions
4.
Visuals- photographs,
paintings
5.
Multimedia- televisions,
newspaper
The
flow of communication, starts with the sender "encoder" will
formulate the message to the receiver and the receiver will feedback
"replay" to the sender based on his/her understanding. It will
enhance our thinking on how we can communicate properly to the people around
us.
